What started off as a colour and palette knife study turned into three of my favourite pieces. These 5"x7" lovelies were the first paintings since my return to fine art that made me feel like I was back in my stride.
Born in Egypt and raised in Canada, my work is mainly inspired by my longing to capture the beauty, and balance the duality, of both cultures. I originally dreamed of being a fashion designer and pursued studies at The Art Institute of Vancouver before realizing that the distance may quite literally break my mother's heart. Moving back to Alberta, I shifted my focus to graphic design at NAIT before deciding that being a 'struggling artist' may in fact break my heart. So as a final attempt to keep my love for art & design alive, I declared a fine arts minor at the University of Alberta...before finding out that artistic all-nighters and psychology exams do not exactly pair well. However, after 2 years of using my social sciences degree in the social services field and coming close to adding an anxiety disorder to my repertoire, I returned to my first love for comfort. Like most rekindled relationships, it was an awkward start. But after a few arguments and many heart to hearts, it looks like this relationship will be a lasting one after all. The proof is in the paintings. (And ink pieces.)
