Evergreen Abstract is a spectacular piece done by Nicholas Yust in rich, vibrant greens over a tall, reaching grind pattern. A holographic effect is created when light passes through the layers of color and reflects off of the curving grooves of the grind pattern. This piece makes a gorgeous contemporary artwork with a bold statement, incorporating a variety of cool greens with a black acrylic vignette, thinner and reactive treatments, industrial style finishing techniques and a glossy clear coat.
I studied fine art and art history for two years at the University of Cincinnati and earned a Master’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Wrist State. I interned for the US Air Fore researching superconductivity. After graduating I worked at GE developing jet engine parts, but eventually my metalworking skill and artist passion regrouped as I left to become a full time artist. I look to nature, architecture, technology and everyday life in my city (Cincinnati) for inspiration in my work. I love to constantly hone and enhance my expertise and push the boundaries of grinding, coloring and forming metal. I make sure every piece that leaves my studio is a striking representation of my body of work.
