Ready to Hang
All of my work is motivated by the spirit realm. I use various subject matter, color, shape and form to put onto the canvas what I am sensing and feeling. The themes I explore in my paintings are about goodness, light, hope, strength, forgiveness, power, wholeness, belonging, healing and redemption.
My abstract work is built in layers. I mostly use painting knives to create my abstract works. With them, I am able to apply the paint thickly with one broad stroke, or, scrape away the paint to reveal the layer underneath. Working this way allows me to achieve the intricate textures and layers that add to the overall dynamic look of all my abstract paintings.
In addition to my personal work, I also take on commissioned projects all the time.
Nathan Rhoads is an artist working in Portland, Oregon. He earned his BFA in 1998 from Point Loma Nazarene University. His primary medium of choice is oil. Nathan's work ranges from abstract to representational. He is a live painter, creating beautiful works of art on the spot at events. He takes on a lot of commissioned projects too, and lately, has been painting beautiful pet portraits. The spirit realm is his muse. Most of his work deals with the spirit realm whether it be representational or abstract in nature. When not painting, he spends time with his 2 boys and dog exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest. His favorite art quote is from Chuck Close: "Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work."
