Ready to Hang
I have always had a fascination with Bobby Darin's song 'Mack the Knife'. It is such a uniquely dark song. The title of this painting comes from that song. I have also had a fascination with sharks; they are simply terrifying.
I was inspired by the song to create this painting. I love how truly intimidating sharks are. This painting hints at the fact that the shark is hunting, about to strike. This shark carries a sense of cunning, power and strength.
Nathan Rhoads is an artist working in Portland, Oregon. He earned his BFA in 1998 from Point Loma Nazarene University. His primary medium of choice is oil. Nathan's work ranges from abstract to representational. He is a live painter, creating beautiful works of art on the spot at events. He takes on a lot of commissioned projects too, and lately, has been painting beautiful pet portraits. The spirit realm is his muse. Most of his work deals with the spirit realm whether it be representational or abstract in nature. When not painting, he spends time with his 2 boys and dog exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest. His favorite art quote is from Chuck Close: "Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work."
