Human portraits are my favorite subject matter to paint, so when I was trying to figure out what to paint next, a portrait of Abe Lincoln was an easy choice. Not only is he someone worthy of being memorialized in a painting (as many other artists besides me have also thought), but he also has very visually interesting facial features that were intriguing to me as a painter. His sunken eyes and deep wrinkles make his face highly recognizable and full of character. When considering what colors to use in this painting, the obvious choice was to utilize red, white and blue because of the patriotic associations people typically associate with the president. But I wanted this portrait to honor him for his noble character, rather than evoke national pride. After all, his values and actions are admirable regardless of his position as president of the United States.
It is painted on a high quality canvas and is ready to be hung.
