My paintings are intended to offer a place of contemplation. I am so influenced by my surroundings and am usually seeking a place of peace or rest, and I like to express my feelings about a place or time that has meaning for me. There is a constant striving to balance intuition and intent.
My process of painting is completely intuitive. I usually start with an idea of which design element I am interested in using, and I make marks or lay down some color and texture and then let the painting lead the way. Each addition to the work leads to the next. My favorite design elements are texture, color, line and shape. The freedom of using abstraction and non-objective processes leads me into a flux of painting, putting down one layer and working back into it or covering it up. Each layer leads to the next until I finally feel that I have expressed what I am feeling; sometimes minimalist and sometimes more complex.
