Here's a charcoal drawing done on site when my family followed me to Eastern Washington for an informal art residency.
Heating meant chopping lots of wood, which kept my husband busy while I was painting. That's our young daughter in the foreground, amusing herself with a pinecone.

Nanci has lived in California, Oregon, Maine, Iowa, Washington, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, finally settling in Colorado. Most of those moves were for grad school or teaching jobs, and each place left an imprint of its own particular visual qualities. She taught all levels of painting and drawing at University of Iowa, Morehead State, the College of William and Mary and Colorado State University. She has been awarded two Colorado state arts council fellowships, numerous merit awards and exhibited work nationally for over 25 years.
