When I was teaching in Italy, my sketchbook was filled with lots of inspiration.
This drawing of an old wall is based on one such sketch.
The charcoal is rich and layered, and the surface of the drawing is active.
The paper is sturdy Stonehenge warm white.

Nanci has lived in California, Oregon, Maine, Iowa, Washington, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, finally settling in Colorado. Most of those moves were for grad school or teaching jobs, and each place left an imprint of its own particular visual qualities. She taught all levels of painting and drawing at University of Iowa, Morehead State, the College of William and Mary and Colorado State University. She has been awarded two Colorado state arts council fellowships, numerous merit awards and exhibited work nationally for over 25 years.
