This is a fictional place that didn't really exist, but the tree as it grew out of a hillside made me want to put a secret doorway into an underground hideout there.
I love tangled messes..... Branches, vines, grasses.
My process often creates contradictory impulses - approaching and withdrawing, overlapping and pulling apart, density and lightness, beauty and menace. I create history in the work as I erase and redraw, or paint over and under the elements time and again.
This comes rolled in a very sturdy 4" mailing tube, ready for you to hang or mat and frame as you like.

Nanci has lived in California, Oregon, Maine, Iowa, Washington, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, finally settling in Colorado. Most of those moves were for grad school or teaching jobs, and each place left an imprint of its own particular visual qualities. She taught all levels of painting and drawing at University of Iowa, Morehead State, the College of William and Mary and Colorado State University. She has been awarded two Colorado state arts council fellowships, numerous merit awards and exhibited work nationally for over 25 years. She earned a BFA at University of Oregon, and an MFA at University of Iowa. See more info at erskinestudio.com
