Inspired by an Ikebana class, I did a series of pieces using floral elements in minimal environments. The placement and spacing of each part of the flower becomes more critical, and the atmosphere is enlivened by their presence.
Oil paint is a very seductive medium, and I can't imagine using anything else.
Nanci has lived in California, Oregon, Maine, Iowa, Washington, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, finally settling in Colorado. Most of those moves were for grad school or teaching jobs, and each place left an imprint of its own particular visual qualities. She taught all levels of painting and drawing at University of Iowa, Morehead State, the College of William and Mary and Colorado State University. She has been awarded two Colorado state arts council fellowships, numerous merit awards and exhibited work nationally for over 25 years.
