A couple summers ago, my wife and I took a trip - just the two of us - for the first time since we had our kids who are now teenagers. We hiked the High Sierra Loop of Yosemite National Park in California for 5 nights. On day #3, after a particularly long set of switchbacks on the way up to Vogelsang, the terrain leveled off, and we were finally able to see out instead of up. The rushing water fresh from snowmelt against the imposing, ancient granite mountain made for a beautiful rest stop.
Matt grew up in Northwest Montana where inspiration never stops. College in Grinnell, Iowa led to a degree in Biology and English. Further studies in Horticulture and various jobs led him and his wife to settle in Illinois and start serious careers as educators in public education. 16 years later, they are both still in education and Matt pursues art, family, reading, gardening, and home renovations on the side. His love of Montana and travels to Florida, Canada, and everywhere in between can be seen in his landscapes. Sometimes it's the details which catch his eye, but usually it's the light and composition that he finds inspirational. Matthew Weld is an award-winning, juried artist, and has shown his work at the Salute to the Arts outdoor show in Fairvew Heights, IL. Matt's pastels have hung in a gallery in St. Louis, Missouri, and can be found in homes from Washington to Georgia. He currently lives with his family and a dog outside St. Louis where he appreciates the vast stretches of corn and sky.
