I chose to title this peice "Looming" in order to accomplish two things. The first, more obvious goal was to give context to the relation between the floating black mass and the landscape beneath it. The second, more subtle goal was to sort of create a pun between the tittle and the the way the backround colors were applied through the application of rigidly linear marks like a warp and weft.
Inspiration came from two directions as well. my desire to create a form that references the geology of our Earth, but tweaked to change the context of it(maybe like hanging that form way high above a landscape?), inspired the subject, while my continual obsession with texture, colors, and the organization of the marks I make inspired the way it was drawn and given form.
This peice marks one of my rare adventures into the world of true painting(as opposed to using gouache or watercolor and simply treating like ink as I often do). I still tried to keep the practice of drawing rather than painting present and noticeable seeing as that is something i am a little bit more interested in.
Hey there, I'm Mononymous. I typically make art from ink and ink like mediums(watery, saturated, drawing based) and my process pulls heavily on the act of drawing. I like to explore organization and growth in my art. I am profoundly influenced by classical aesthetics, contrast between visual simplicity and complexity, organic things and geological things. Thank you for enjoying my art.
