This painting is from the Series 'The end is the beginning', which is like a dream. You are not quite sure where you are. The imagery may appear foreboding or it might inspire hope. You could become fearful of change or welcome catastrophe. It is one colossal circle in your unconscious mind and in the waking world around you. One can never be sure of anything except for the fact that everything is connected and has no beginning or end. The Road was painted after I read the book with the same title by Cormac McCarthy. I envisioned the main characters' travels and tribulations and put them down. This painting was inspired directly from Cormac's vivid word imagery and my own dreams.Note: This is a painting on a wooden panel, not a framed canvas.

I have been creating art as long as I can remember. I come from an artistic family and my earliest memories are of my grandfather in his studio and my grandmother at home. Often, as a small child, I would visit my grandfather and spend the entire day "helping" him with his art making. Memories of my grandmother with a brush or pencil in hand drawing what she saw throughout the day, stays with me still. I firmly believe this need to keep my hands as makers and my eyes as directors of beauty came from them both. Artmaking in many different mediums gives me joy. I earned my MFA in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Currently, my focus is on painting encaustics or velvets influenced by my dream state consciousness. All of this work is open to interpretation (as with all art) and I usually like to defer to the meaning a viewer finds in a piece rather than my own directed intention. We all find personal truths in beauty and the grotesque. Thank you for viewing and appreciating my art. MMA
