Ready to Hang

I just finished a Pelican drawing on a recent wood burning. While looking at it I started playing with the designs this combined with living in Florida it was only natural to work on a Pelican. But I did not want it to look like someone else's. So I started using the hard edge sort of like the Northwest Indian type of drawings. I arrived with this painting using the aqua blues that are so common here in Florida. This is on gallery wrapped canvas and the painting extends to the sides. Ready to hang right out of the box. No framing is required. Mostly I hope that you enjoy it my Blue Pelican!
A piece by piece history of my artwork, where it has come from and where it is going is available for view on:

Like most children I started drawing in grade school. During that time, I was picked for various art projects and received a fair bit of attention. I continued drawing and entered my first open art competition with adults at 13. I took honorable mention in drawing at the Central Washington State Fair. I graduated with a degree in Art from Central Washington University in Ellensburg in 1979. Over the years my style has developed bringing together both of my favorite types of art movements, the impressionist and the renaissance. My work uses background under painting with glazes, and washes much like the renaissance artists did. (Maybe these are a little stronger in colors.) From the impressionists, I work over this with details and softer whites, blacks, and pastels to get the finished effects I strive for. However, to this I add a more detailed finish to my paintings and include black. I like the play of blacks and whites much like Rembrandt drew and painted. I have arrived at the thought that these are the last two major art movements that I think the average person on the street really liked, and that is why I am a throw back artist to these times. I have won various awards and was the Feature Artist at the Walton County Fair in 2010. Best of Show 2017 Walton County Fair. Most of my work is in private collections in Washington State and in Florida since 2008. My work is available for purchase online at Vangoart.co/MLT. I am also willing to look at limited commissions, and work as an Adjunct Art Teacher at Northwest State College, DeFuniak Campus.
