Curator's Note: I love the apparent wood grain, as well as the light and airy feel this pieces gives off.

I chose a Hammock as a way of showing the tradition summer nap time. But instead of a beach I chose a shady porch. The whole reason I wanted to draw this drawing was to work on the shadows and wood grains on the porch!! What can I say, I like these little or simple challenges! I introduces a little color in this drawing by including water color pencils, beside my usual black and white conte crayons. This is a small drawing that looks better in real life than it does in a photo, particularly in the shadows and wood grains. Looks good in a white beachy type of frame.

Thanks for looking,

Like most children I started drawing in grade school. During that time, I was picked for various art projects and received a fair bit of attention. I continued drawing and entered my first open art competition with adults at 13. I took honorable mention in drawing at the Central Washington State Fair. I graduated with a degree in Art from Central Washington University in Ellensburg in 1979. Over the years my style has developed bringing together both of my favorite types of art movements, the impressionist and the renaissance. My work uses background under painting with glazes, and washes much like the renaissance artists did. (Maybe these are a little stronger in colors.) From the impressionists, I work over this with details and softer whites, blacks, and pastels to get the finished effects I strive for. However, to this I add a more detailed finish to my paintings and include black. I like the play of blacks and whites much like Rembrandt drew and painted. I have arrived at the thought that these are the last two major art movements that I think the average person on the street really liked, and that is why I am a throw back artist to these times. I have won various awards and was the Feature Artist at the Walton County Fair in 2010. Best of Show 2017 Walton County Fair. Most of my work is in private collections in Washington State and in Florida since 2008. My work is available for purchase online at Vangoart.co/MLT. I am also willing to look at limited commissions, and work as an Adjunct Art Teacher at Northwest State College, DeFuniak Campus.
