I created this piece one because I am a fan of music, all kinds of music really, and two because I found a series of photographs in a magazine that I though were really beautiful and that I had to recreate as drawings.
I suppose the main inspiration for this series was my desire to visually articulate music or sound through the recreation of these photographs.
My inspiration for this series and continued inspiration for work of this nature remains my love of drawing minute detail and the challenge of photorealism.
Melody S. Boone is a mixed media artist with an interdisciplinary art practice, currently living and working in Suffolk, VA. She received her Bachelor’s of Fine Art in 2003 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and her Masters of Fine Art in 2009 from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. She has been featured in numerous local group exhibitions in Virginia and several group exhibits in New York and New Jersey. Along with art making, Melody has worked with several professional artists and has participated in artist residencies and co-ops. Melody continues to cultivate relationships in the art field and is continually devoted to her art practice. As her work continues to evolve she gains further knowledge about herself and her family history. Through her emersion in black and art history, she attempts to use her narratives (sometimes abstract) and visual cues as a way to dispel notions of race as a label.
