I paint because I love to paint, to engage and interact with color, line, shape, and texture. I passionately express myself with the subject, until the painting speaks to me and I no longer exist. The process of exploration and discovery is a co creative dance with the unknown. I find myself going for the spontaneity, an uncontrived and sensual dance that feeds my spirit. Currently my subject is horses. I am captivated by their size, strength, their majesty of spirit, wild and untamed. Expressing the horses raw beauty and grandeur of movement is thrilling magic beyond words.

I am classically trained to paint Ala Prima from live models, capturing the essence of my subjects, and expressing it spontaneously and intuitively. My connection with the models is essential to the process and I am inspired by being in their presence. As I paint, I feel every stroke is caressing the miraculous beauty of the body.

My passion for painting is a meditation and has helped me through hard times in my life. I went to college as an art major and in three days, changed my major thinking art was insignificant. I graduated with a BA in the social sciences with a minor in art from University of Denver. I subsequently took art classes wherever I lived. 10 years after graduating I went back to school for a Masters in Expressive Art Therapy at Southwestern College of New Mexico. Yet I wasn’t able to commit to my own art until my four children were grown and I moved to Boulder in 1995, and finally I gave myself permission to paint and make art my priority. I studied classical figure and portrait painting for five years with the teacher, Elvie Davis, who carries on the lineage of John Singer Sargent, whose work has been a major influence on my paintings.
