Melba sees painting as a visual representation of the poetry living in the figure. Her love for painting flourishes out of a vivid inner world that loves color and form.
Melba paints in her studio in Chelsea and participates at the CCAE workshop conducted by David Andrus in Cambridge. She also has taken courses and participated in workshops with Catherine Kehoe, Cynthia Packard, Christopher Chippendale, Eric Bornstein, Shoe Regna and the Ecuadorean painters Patricia Matamoros and Antonio Mafaldo.
Melba has been painting for approximately thirteen years. She is originally from Ecuador and has lived in Boston since her teen years. She and her husband, Jan, have three kids. The whole family is involved in the visual arts and music. Melba completed her BA studies in International Relations, Economics and German Language and Literature at Boston University and her Masters in International Relations at BU as well. She has self taught her self painting, and has been fortunate to be able to take courses and participate in workshops of great local painters.
