A colorful rendition of a Prickly Pear cactus in the early morning sunshine, this was painted after a visit to the Desert Botanical Gardens, Phoenix, Arizona. The combination of light and shadow on this cactus was irresistible! I live in the Sonoran desert and see many cacti both in the wild and as desert landscaping, the prickly pear is a favorite because it is one of the earliest to bloom in the springtime.
This flower painting was awarded 3rd place at the 2014 Arizona State Fair (class 614, Arizona Superstar - all mediums)
My name is Melanie Harman. I am a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting my portfolio. Painting allows me to pause and reflect on my journey through life. I am able to better appreciate the colors and beauty of the natural world and connect with it on a deeper level. Watercolor is my choice of medium; the wet-in-wet interaction of colors is fascinating and stimulating in all of its permutations. I am originally from England and moved to Phoenix in 1987 and have since become a US citizen. I live in a split-level house with my husband and two cats. We are active and like to ski, hike and backpack.
