Ready to Hang

yellow orange bursts of color floating on sea of burgundy, seed pods. from my ongoing series of coastal nature. field at edge of sea and woods. traditionally scrolls were vehicles for displaying calligraphy/painting, capturing a feeling of nature/an idea, to be hung to set a mood, & changed often to match an occasion/season. my reinvention of japanese "kakejiku" are on synthetic material similar in appearance to rice paper, but stronger, waterproof & tear-resistant, and framed, ie, hung on anodized aluminium rods along the top & bottom edges

i've been exploring colors, ideas, textures, themes of japanese art since my childhood there, and been merging it with my education of modern, western, abstract aesthetics. i majored in industrial design at the rhode island school of design, where the risd approach to all aspects of "the arts" is a major influence. the other major influence was growing up with a mother who teaches painting.
