This is an abstract painting built using multiple layers built up over multiple weeks, which is evident by the significant texture. I use a specialized tool I built using large sheets of plexiglass and various other tools to apply paint and scrape it away as the layers are built, a technique first made famous by Gerhard Richter. While the painting is completely abstract, I used the idea of a landscape to inform the structure and color scheme, and the metaphor of a cloudy spring rain with the green fields in the foreground and the bright yellow sun above. This is why I gave it the name "spring rain."
I'm a San Francisco, CA based artist and typically focus on doing large scale abstract art. I've been fortunate to have had a number of shows in the past year, including one at Sotheby's, and I'm very happy to be supporting my friend Ethan from UVA as he launches this great company, which fulfills a definite need in the marketplace for artists.
