With my paintings, I’ve focused on large abstract pieces that are often connected with reality in some way either through specific photographs or the general metaphor of a landscape or seascape. The techniques I use are inspired by Gerhard Richter first developed the idea of "abstrakt bild" by using large tools to apply paint and scrape it away as layers are built up over time. You can see this in the gestural creation in each painting, but there is also a great deal of structure and balance of both shape and color. This painting reminds me of the clouds moving in over the Golden Gate Bridge. Every time I look at it I find something new and interesting. There's lots of depth to it, and lots of texture that doesn't come through in the picture. Get in touch if you want to see more detailed photos of the painting.
I'm a San Francisco, CA based artist and typically focus on doing large scale abstract art. I've been fortunate to have had a number of shows in the past year, including one at Sotheby's, and I'm very happy to be supporting my friend Ethan from UVA as he launches this great company, which fulfills a definite need in the marketplace for artists.
