Since my early childhood, I have always been the one in the corner sketching or jotting down ideas that spark my creativity, and because of that my life is full of nostalgia. I am constantly looking backwards to tap into both the joy and sorrow I have experienced throughout my life. As humans, our past defines who we are, but it doesn’t trap us in a realm of repeated histories. In fact, art allows us traverse across space and time to expose us to emotions that transcend our lives and into the lives of those around us.
Hello, my name is Mason Holcomb. I am a student, a non-profit coordinator, and most of all an artist. I spend much of my time practicing my craft as an artist. Early on in life I realized that art was a part of what defined me. My junior year in high-school I was Congressionally Awarded Best of Show for the 4th District of Alabama. Since then I have been working towards a degree in both Art Studio and History, and as a byproduct of this my mind is constantly filled with inspiration on how to express certain feelings or ideas. One moment I am drawn towards something, the next I am sent chasing after some untried idea. I categorize these tangents so that I may fully explore them through series of works. In my portfolio you will see these distinct tangents which range from animal studies to conceptual surrealist pieces. Across my artwork I try to avoid one consistent design language in favor of highlighting the concepts hidden beneath the work.
