I work in layers of color and imagery and let the story unfold as I explore. This piece has collaged areas done with archival printed black and white patterns. Faces never cease to fascinate me.
My work draws on the traditions of Surrealism and Expressionism with elements of Cubism. These styles use transmutation, exaggeration and fantasy to express feelings, dreams and unconscious thoughts. It is our nature to be multidimensional, so I like to depict multiple views in my work.
My name is Mary DeLave. Welcome to my Vango Art site I have been mesmerized by creating images as long as I can remember. I drew and doodled on just about any empty piece of paper, but when I was given my first sketch book at about the age of 9 it helped me to focus my art. Many of my painting ideas come from sketchbooks that I have filled with drawings, dreams and scenes from everyday life including ones that were done many years ago. I majored in Architecture at Washington University in St Louis Missouri and had a wonderful time exploring creative concepts in the Architecture program and also took classes in fine art. After graduating I decided a career in Architecture was a bit too structured to continue my particular brand of creative explorations. I focused on developing my style and exploring various mediums after graduating while working at various part time jobs. As I developed my style I started to sell my creations and gradually became a full time artist. I currently reside in the San Francisco Bay area in California.
