Ready to Hang

TRIPLETS!! The same, but different. Similar, but not exact. Working together, but still individual. This triptych - if you want it to be - can be hung vertically, horizontally, stepped, even, or individually. These pieces can make a statement, or fit into a smaller area as an accent.

The backgrounds came from using many layers of thin glazes, allowing shapes and textures to show through. The circles are random yet organized and continue on the sides as well. They create interest and keep the viewers eye moving through the pieces. The many different hues makes this a universal piece, working with almost any color palette.

This is three separate paintings, each 4 x 12 x 1.5 deep. Each is gallery wrapped and each painting continues on the sides. Ready to hang in oh so many ways, it may be hard to make up your mind.

My work is about color and movement, echoing the beauty and rhythms of nature and life. Most of my paintings are created with many thin layers of acrylic glazing, producing complex and beautiful colors with a lot of luminosity. Textures and shapes form with each new layer added. Each piece takes a long time to design and finish, as every layer must completely dry before painting another. Hues sitting on top of each other, rather than mixed or applied thicker, create new colors and a lot of depth and texture. When the painting is finished colors and shapes appear through all the earlier layers. I have been an artist more than 25 years. I studied photography and painting at American University, the Washington Studio School and the Smithsonian. During my years as a professional underwater photographer my work was exhibited, published and internationally awarded. I began painting early in my art career - first oils on canvas, capturing my images of sea life. About thirteen years ago I transitioned to acrylics on canvas, and moved from realism to abstract. No longer diving and photographing, my love of color and shape continues through my paintings. Follow my work at artbymarna.com. My work - photographs and paintings - are in corporate and private collections nationwide including Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Scottsdale, San Francisco and Santa Fe, where I now reside. I've exhibited in many shows and galleries, most recently at the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Art in Las Vegas and Eldorado Open Studio in Santa Fe.
