Just before landing at the Atlanta Airport I glanced out my window and saw the last moments of a brilliant sunset. The soft glow of the suns scattering rays left an indelible impression that I knew would be manifested in my work.
At the age of 7, Mark Harris was given an unexpected gift by his father. “I remember asking my dad to draw a picture of a horse,” he says. “My father, not being very artistic, quickly scribbled out what looked like a box on four sticks. I said, 'This doesn’t look like a horse.'” Mark’s father told him to find a picture of a horse that he preferred, and to draw it for himself. This amusing beginning is what sparked Mark’s interest in creating art. “I had no idea what he was giving me at the time, and I don’t think he did either.” Self-taught as an artist, Mark Harris makes exceptional use of color in his paintings. He has a keen eye and the ability to create strong, beautiful, contemporary images. Mark has exhibited at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, CA, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato, CA, and the California Modern Gallery in San Francisco, CA, just to name a few. His work is included in corporate and private collections both domestically and internationally, in such places as the SF Bay Area, Atlanta, Chicago, London, and Santiago, Chile. Harris’ style can be described as bold and sophisticated, and his body of work demonstrates a remarkably broad range of artistic talent. Harris continues to develop his unique visual vocabulary and is an emerging artist to keep your eye on.
