At first I painted red acrylic and added colored pencil and other marks to create a sense of heat. I then painted the figure over and added the beach towel and book. I wanted to evoke the feeling of a day on the beach in summer when it's simply too hot to read. Time to go for a dip in the ocean! This small piece is painted on watercolor paper which is glued to a .75 inch deep stretched canvas. The sides are painted black for display without a frame, although a frame can be added.
