As I was putting out the colors on my palette for this painting (I love painting in complimentary colors like blue/turquoise and orange), it reminded me of the beach. That then reminded me of a little girl very dear to me. She was one of my students in Sunday School, and my pastor's youngest child. Their family lived at the end of town closest to the beach and loved to spend time there. On a limited pastor's budget, there lots of free fun to be had at the beach! Claire was such a fun and sunny little girl and has grown up to be a quite a darling teen, still goofy, fun and loving. I of course, had to name this bright and happy painting after her.
For me, happiness is having a brush in my hand, paint on the palette and a canvas on the easel. I am self-taught from the age of 18, beginning with a set of oils and brushes and a few instruction books. I’ve taken various classes and workshops over the years, watch lots of art videos and my art instruction book collection has expanded greatly. My current focus is in abstract art. I live on the incredible Indian River in southeast Florida and the ever-changing colors of water and sky are an inspiration to me. Color is the most important element in my art. If that works, everything else falls into place.
