Oil on canvas. Three horses having a romp in the Sonoran Desert with vibrantly colored mountains in the background. These whimsical ponies are enjoying their freedom to exist in their kaleidoscopic environment.
While growing up in South Dakota, we lived next door to famous Native American artist Oscar Howe and his family. He is credited with bringing abstract and cubism in Native American art to acceptance within the art world. He gifted my parents with an original piece; an act of kindness I will always remember and appreciate. Artist and fellow student at the University of South Dakota, Robert Penn, is another artist who holds my deep admiration. Predominantly I work in egg tempera, watercolor, oil, and mixed medias. I studied art at the University of South Dakota with continuing art education. My work ranges from the abstract to the realistic and all in between. Everything inspires me so I am always taking photographs. Revisiting these photographs stimulates me to create. I hope you enjoy what I do.
