Another colorful day on Lake Hopatcong. First impression of the summers end, drawn in chalk while picnicking on the lake and then painted in my studio after. The colors of the mountains and rocks in beginning autumn stuck with me long after my visit.
“Rocky Reflections”, original acrylic painting on canvas panel. 18″ x 24″. Signed L. Vilagos.
Finding inspiration from the natural world, Lori Vilagos is best known for her acrylic landscape scenes depicting the local lakes and forests around her home town. Her paintings draw influences from the impressionist period, with loose and expressive brush strokes, gestural line elements, and vivid light and color use. She also merges her love of line found in contemporary abstract paintings, where line can hint and describe at the contour of a shape while being expressive in the moment. Lori begins by capturing the essence of the subject's color and expressive line often with chalk or pencil from life, and then works from the sketch in her studio. She believes doing this is vital to capturing the expressive qualities of the interaction between line, color and light on the subject matter.
