My favorite in my series on Lake Hopatcong. During a time when I was grieving the loss of my first pregnancy, I searched Lake Hopatcong for places that would bring my soul peace. The beauty of these homes lifted me from ugliness for a moments time. I started with a chalk drawing, listening to the boats go by and the feel of the sand beneath my feet.

This painting is a signed original 14″x18″ acrylic painting with blue and green expressive homes on the lake at the end of the summer. The canvas is stretched, ready for a forever home.

Finding inspiration from the natural world, Lori Vilagos is best known for her acrylic landscape scenes depicting the local lakes and forests around her home town. Her paintings draw influences from the impressionist period, with loose and expressive brush strokes, gestural line elements, and vivid light and color use. She also merges her love of line found in contemporary abstract paintings, where line can hint and describe at the contour of a shape while being expressive in the moment. Lori begins by capturing the essence of the subject's color and expressive line often with chalk or pencil from life, and then works from the sketch in her studio. She believes doing this is vital to capturing the expressive qualities of the interaction between line, color and light on the subject matter.
