Spent the day on the lake, visiting the little hidden coves with small bungalow homes that seem to be built hoovering on the edge of the water. I spotted this adorable little blue home against the overgrown greenery and plant filled cove. I just had to stop and capture it. My art is created within the moment; capturing the essence of the subject's color and expressive line. Life is fleeting, moments pass and can not be brought back. Art, however can capture that moment and allow it to be relived.
Finding inspiration from the natural world, Lori Vilagos is best known for her acrylic landscape scenes depicting the local lakes and forests around her home town. Her paintings draw influences from the impressionist period, with loose and expressive brush strokes, gestural line elements, and vivid light and color use. She also merges her love of line found in contemporary abstract paintings, where line can hint and describe at the contour of a shape while being expressive in the moment. Lori begins by capturing the essence of the subject's color and expressive line often with chalk or pencil from life, and then works from the sketch in her studio. She believes doing this is vital to capturing the expressive qualities of the interaction between line, color and light on the subject matter.
