Little Boxes is a colorful mosaic of houses of different shapes, shades and sizes. From afar, the piece appears to be a kind of graphic or abstract puzzle, but upon closer inspection, each geometrical shape is a house with its own character. With my work, I enjoy creating these fun optical illusions and challenging the perceptions of a viewer’s experience of art.

The piece is acrylic on canvas, and comes signed with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Lupicinio Ramos da Rocha, or Lupi, was born into a family of artists in Joao Passoa, Brazil, in 1975. Often finding himself surrounded by his father’s artist friends, Lupi would listen in on their conversations about art, and soon developed a fascination with the idea of artistic creation as a form of expression. Growing up in Brazil, Lupi was also inspired by the colorful, lively atmosphere that surrounded him, which would later translate into how he expressed himself on the canvas. At the age of 18, Lupi began to embrace his identity as an artist. While his father was away, Lupi used his materials to paint 3 large canvases, eventually selling them under his father’s name. Once he received validation for how beautiful and unique the paintings were, he knew he had no other choice than to be an artist. At the age of 24, Lupi moved to New York City, finding inspiration in its many museums and selling his paintings on West Broadway. Over the years, the joy of creating and expressing himself through his paintings has never evaded Lupi. Painting has been Lupi’s passion and vocation for over 20 years, and he has exhibited his South-American inspired contemporary canvases in New York, New Jersey and Brazil. In addition to painting, Lupi enjoys expressing himself through poetry, music and the art of capoeira.
