My inspiration comes from photos of the streets of Europe. I love to create my own version of the quiet streets by loose strokes of bold colors moving quickly through the canvas. This piece was inspired by a black and white photo I came across that called attention to a women walking down the street in what I imagined to be Europe to sneak away in the rain for an afternoon with her love.
Liz Mahoney grew up in sunny California and moved at a young age cross country to the East Coast. Stumbling upon her mothers hatbox full of oils as a child, Liz became curious about art. She spent hours daily escaping in a sketch pad or a canvas teaching herself how to draw and paint. In college Liz studied in Florence at Lorenzo de Medici and picked up the foundation to her passion; oil painting. While it began with a focus on people and the human figure, she has developed a new inspiration within the hidden streets of Europe. Currently Liz paints oil on canvas with bold, rich colors illustrating movement in still streets. Her series tells a romantic story through cobblestone streets of Europe.
