In addition to the thick impasto paint , these colorful flamingos are made from the recycled dried acrylic paint skins that come from my pallet. Turning what was once trash into these lovely treasures. There are also 2 flamingos on each side of the painting. Eliminating the need for framing.
Very rarely painting from photos, my art is not so much about the subject matter as it is a result of my intense fascination with the amazing properties of acrylic gels, inks, paints, and powders. I have been known to incorporate textural ranges, from the smooth velvety flow of fluid mediums, all the way up to the thick, viscous gels that leave deep luscious, visible paint strokes. My art is more about pushing and exploring these materials and how to effectively use them in so many creative ways. I pour, blend, scrape, re-apply, and even use the “paint skins” of dried paint from my paint pallet and sculpt it back into my paintings. These materials are applied with pallet knives, brushes, and fingers on canvas or wood to give a bold and intriguing surface. My style is bold, visible, and very expressionistic. My intent is to evoke a curiosity to come in closer, to examine, touch, and figure out what the eye is seeing. I sometimes refer to my pieces as “eye aerobics!”
