I was inspired by a Sargent painting that I love which gives this piece an old world feellng.
My first memories are filled with art! My father was a professional artist and we lived in Chicago. He often strolled around the Art Institute with me and since that wonderful place contains the largest collection of impressionism outside of Paris, I was lucky enough to be exposed to gorgeous paintings from my earliest days. From the time I could hold onto a crayon, I wanted to draw, and I was encouraged to do that by both my parents. I majored in art in college and focused on painting. After that I spent some time in the south of France to refine my technique. Most of the early work I did was alls prima - where the paint is applied quickly without any under painting. Later I became interested in the Flemish technique - when the paint in applied in layers and depth is created with glazes. During my career I have painted by commission for the most part, and so my styles can vary greatly to accommodate the client's taste. I feel fortunate to be able to display a range of paintings that can have a broad appeal. And it is thrilling to bring a variety of subjects and genres to this space. Enjoy!
