Paris. Musee d'Orsay. I was OBSESSED with Claude Monet's Les Dindons. OBSESSED. I don't know why. I just had to go back to that painting again and again. I had no idea it even existed, and they had it in some obscure little room at the far end of the museum... looking back on that experience, some 25 years ago, i now understand why. It was everything I percieved my childhood to be. The castle, the Downton Abbey, I grew up in (really a small farmhouse ..much smaller than I can even believe, having gone back to see it recently) surrounded by fabulous woodland creatures (aka chickens and geese) was captured in all it's glory by the fabulous Monet! And they had it stuck in a back room! I had to soak every nuance in! So now here I am. Understanding myself a bit more.... and finally i sit down and just let it out.... and it's a bit closer to my reality...but still a bit more glorifed...and it deserves to be....
Hi. My name is Leslie Lewis. I have been working as an artist for over 30 years with my husband Markus. Everything is a canvas to us... we started with canvas, went to walls, then to clothing- designing and then painting on it... or painting on cloth then transforming it... and all along the canvases have been there... still painting. Still loving it!
