Recently I fled the cold Chicago winter for a wonderful visit to Hawaii, where it is always summer. In this painting I portray the peace and beauty of a tropical garden, with its many shades of green. The white poolside chairs provide a contrast while suggesting a place to sit in respite and reflection …
I grew up in Midland, Michigan. There I admired the beautiful buildings designed by Alden B. Dow, a disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright. This inspired me to become an architect, but I always made time for art as well. I graduated from the College of Arts and Architecture at the University of Michigan. I also studied at the the Hyde Park Art Center and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have displayed my art in local, national and international exhibits. My recent solo exhibit, Colorplay, displayed my approach to painting - color swirls over the canvas, with strong, lively brush strokes. I live near the University of Chicago and enjoy painting the Gothic buildings on campus. I was especially encouraged when my painting “Botany Pond” at UChicago won first prize at the Beverly Art Center. I have since won several awards and honors. I am also honored to have my art in private collections across the United States, as well as in London and Moscow.
