I imagined a somewhat comical figure of death. Very much human but equipped with dangerous and grim tools. The idea for the skeletons came from playing with my cats. In one sense, I became death that year by separating myself from things I no longer valued.

I was born in Italy and immigrated to New York with my family in 1975. Instead of jumping into the art world, I did the "sensible" thing and studied art education at Arizona State University, graduating in 1988 with a BFA and in 1991 with a Masters in Education. This led to a very rewarding career teaching art/design and photography, to students in kindergarten all the way to college. These days, I teach art part time at Mesa Community College in Arizona and continue to refine and build my drawing and painting practice in my home studio.
