Ready to Hang
Growing up in Baku, one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, I developed a love and admiration for the breathtaking ancient architecture- its perfect blend of lights, textures and geometry. I started painting in 1994, mainly images of old buildings and walls. I aim to capture the image of the place by combining the free flow of the medium with concrete shapes and forms. My medium of choice is oil and acrylic paint. I do not use brushes, I prefer to use sponges, metal plates, spackle knives and found objects. In my paintings I use copper, silver and gold tones that allow me to capture different effects of lights and shadows.
I was born in Baku, Azerbaijan in 1978. We moved to United States in 1994 and have lived in Philadelphia ever since. I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Psychology in 2003 and remained at Temple University to complete my Masters of Occupational Therapy in 2006. I have been working as a Pediatric Occupational therapist since my graduation in 2006. I started painting in 1994 and began exhibiting my art work in April 2016.
