Vertical lines have been on my mind. From walking in the city and being eclipsed by tall buildings, or fences in my neighborhood. Vertical aspects of physiology have been ever present as well. My parallel focus with art is my health...trying to live longer for my children, and be able to continue doing physical work on paintings. Bones are the foundation, just as the surface supports the work. One is seen and supported, the other is not seen and taken for granted.

This painting comes after a 2 month break to increase my health, heal bones, and become stronger. Sometimes, at least for me, these breaks are cathartic and inspire new work, new directions, or a new attitude. I am glad to say I have achieved all three with this one.

Video footage of the creation of this work is here:

Law Blank has been painting, showing in galleries, and selling his work for over 30 years. Law’s current series of paintings “Reconnecting Time and Memory – Buddha | Munchausen | Freud” will attempt to address memory in its clear and its fabricated glory. Focusing on childhood memory, it will be my exercise in recalling the intangible fears, achievements, expectations, love and loss in an interpretive leap of faith. I find the gaps in memory, for a creative person, allows for filler in the form of desire, or self-aggrandizing backstory. The results are indicative of our current state of self and denial. The narrative of each canvas will live independent of each other, but thread a consistent notion that time and memory are intrinsically connected and we truly do not have a grasp on either. In addition to Law's main body of work, he takes in his local landscape in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and portrays views of Chester County. This work provides a relaxed and fun outlet for painting without the pressure of producing a series. A good bit of technique and experimentation end up being tested on the animal and landscape painting. Law is also active in many other areas of creativity and philanthropy: Board Member: Sing Me a Story Foundation Advisory Board Member: Resident Theater Company, West Chester, PA Principal Learning and Performance Consultant for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Principal Songwriter for Robots Eat People and Law Blank He is also the founder of a new media outlet called stART Talking Art, which promotes art and creativity with interview, presentations, and featured artist.
