The clash of traditional and modern, western influences in Korea and their beauty standards. Here you see an old school Korean woman in traditional dress (hanbok) with a current Korean pop music star in midst of a dance/song.

Lauren Hana Chai was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii being the first of her family to be born in the United States. Raised by her grandparents who are from South Korea, she grew up with dual cultures. Having been raised very traditional Lauren gravitates towards unconventional mediums with mixed media as well as working with her first love, oils. Her work is a reflection of her identity, a clash of traditional and modern, eastern and western and addresses issues such as taboo, feminism, sexuality, violation and oppression. Lauren also explores the abstract Korean cultural innate trait called "Han". laurenhanachai.com
