When I was deployed to Iraq back in 2009, I remember always being in awe by the sunsets and sunrises. I was always out on the roads driving supplies around with my platoon in sketchy conditions, but no matter where I was or what I was doing, I could look to the sky and for an instant, forget that I was in a war.
Spending time outdoors is crucial to Kristine’s artistic practice and personal wellbeing, as she believes that nature has the ability to balance out the anxieties and tension created by fast paced technological life.
In addition, paying closer attention to natural landforms as well as human activity not only provides a contemporary view of the world around us, but also has the potential to reveal metaphorical conflicts and resolutions that shed light on personal and spiritual states of mind.
Her process ranges from working with watercolor sketches to full on mixed-media explorations, but her love for painting is truly revealed in her acrylic creations.
Kristine L Kordell is an artist, musician and Army Veteran from Gaithersburg, MD who lives and works in Portland, OR. She received her BFA in Craft at Oregon College of Art and Craft. Her work has been exhibited in various shows in the Pacific Northwest, including the Art on the Vine student charity auction and Cannon Beach’s Art Association Gallery.
