Ready to Hang
This is the 4th painting in my STORIES Series. I was told to dig deeper by a gallery owner. I really am a happy artist, creating happy, colorful paintings and I don't believe I am all that deep! So, my intention was that the STORY is the viewers contribution, framed in his/her own reference. Sometimes, people look at my work and say, "Oh it looks like....." and their statement just wasn't what I had in mind when I painted it, and I get my feelings hurt, just a little. But this series is designed to encourage the viewer to decide without my lead. Is it someone you know? Is it happy, sad or pensive? STORIES/04 is created with a palette knife and brush in an expressionistic style through an arbitrary layering of color and line. I encourage the viewer to examine the strokes and direction. I would love to know how it makes you feel!
It is coated with an archival varnish for protection and is painted on a 1.75" deep wood panel.. the sides are a natural maple and it looks wonderful hanging on the wall or on a shelf.
"Instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I have before my eyes, I use color more arbitrarily, in order to express myself forcibly." -Van Gogh I am a full-time painter living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Surface Pattern Design from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I designed all things printed or woven, primarily wallpaper and fabric, which was followed by a career as an Interior Designer within two Cleveland, Ohio architecture firms. Painting is very important to me. Please visit my links to view more of my work, follow me- or contact me!. I would love to hear from you. In fact, it would make my day.
