“Aphrodisiac” is a 20 x 20 painting of a Sea Urchin. The background is made with hues of ocean blues covered with significant traces of vitrial paint, giving it a water like appearance and making the painting have movement from light, reminding me of actually currents from an ocean. The Sea Urchin it’s self is black with tons of dark shiny glass like red. This effect was also created with acrylic and vitrial. Uni (oo-nee) is the Japanese name for the edible part of the Sea Urchin, which to some is said to be an aphrodisiac. I love looking at ocean life, being at the beach, and enjoying the amazing seafood that our oceans give us as gifts. Whether you see this painting as Uni or simply a unique abstract, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Art is in the eye of the beholder!
