Katrina's abstract paintings explore gesture, texture and composition. With varying degrees of symbol and representation, the movements give way to stories, poems, and meditations. The works embrace the expression and emotion of the gesture, and come both from the mind, as well as the body. Representations begin to come forward as spirits, creatures and movements. Many of the works include personal poetry and prose, speaking, singing and sighing with the painting as it builds and grows.
Her most recent small works evoke an experimental layering of materials and textures. These mixed media pieces combine bright notes of color, along with intricate detailing, to explore the picture plane in more intimate format.
With an interest in the new casualists and provisional painting, Katrina strives to continue to explore abstract expression, intuitive painting and improvisation.
