Curator's Note: Loose, watery acrylic paint runs around the figure and off canvas like swaths of fabric.
To begin with, I first painted the background a solid turquoise. Then to create an interesting merge of colors, I let the paint bleed into one another forming puddles. I then thought of having a woman emerge from this swirl of vibrant, cool colors. Giving the imagery that it is her skirt that is the sea. Emerging from a sea of purples, violets and blues, she sends forth cool sophistication. Painted with premium acrylic paints, layered on a stretched wrap around canvas with staple free sides. Painted around the edges for a finished look. Some graphite pencil detail on girl. Protected with 2 coats of Liquitex satin varnish.
I acquired a fascination with art at an early age. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, as a child, I received numerous awards and merits including a scholarship to attend art classes at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. My work was displayed at The World’s Fair in Flushing, New York and was shipped to Japan for a special exhibition at an elementary school. I hold a degree in Fine Art and Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. After graduating from FIT, I moved to beautiful Southern California to work as a freelance illustrator for well-known magazine companies such as SEA Magazine and ROAD & TRACK. Later on, I accepted the position as Assistant Art Director for BIARRITZ Magazine which featured my unique illustrations. Based in Anaheim, California, I currently enjoy being a full time artist creating commissions for clients in a variety of media. I work in charcoal, pastel, pen and ink as well as acrylic and oil paint.
