After "Jardine's Naturalist's Library"
"Jardine’s Naturalist’s Library" is a series of forty small volumes on natural history illustrated with etched and colored plates which was published Victorian England, 1833-1843. Dover Books has made a selection of the illustrations which are economically available to all. I chose to work from those compositions, but magnified each in a larger-than-life format. Rather than the original fixed lines of etching, I chose to use the softer, messier mediums of conté crayon and pastel, which I felt would add a bit of fidget and flutter to the birds. In doing so, I've applied a more immediate and natural hand to the Naturalist’s Library. "Kestrels" has been exhibited at The Burr Homestead, Fairfield, CT, JLEFC's 22nd Annual Art Show, 2013, Wild Vine, Bronxville, NY, 2012, and Boeringer Ingleheim Corporation, Danbury, CT, "The Art of Caring", 2012.
I grew up in rural Ohio. While earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting at The Ohio State University, I was awarded a Ford Foundation Grant. I then moved to NYC to attend New York University, spent a semester abroad in Venice, Italy and earned a Master’s degree in studio art. The New York metropolitan area has been my home ever since. I now live and work in Yonkers with my husband John, who provides invaluable support, advice, and carpentry skills.
