This is an original handmade stone lithograph. This is number 1 of limited edition of 19 and it’s the last copy left unsold in the edition. The print has its edition number, title and is signed on the front. Many of my pieces are based around the idea of competition in our daily lives. Roosters have always been a favorite topic of mine because of the tradition of fighting cocks. The rooster has had many successes and stands proud and strong, but he always has a target on him and knows that his first loss will often be his last.
I am a printmaker, illustrator and chicken lover. Relief printmaking, especially woodcut and screenprinting, are my primary medium. My previous field was illustration and design before I moved into printmaking. What drew me into printmaking was the anticipation of seeing the final result after all of the process that goes into each print. Every step in the creation of a print can almost be viewed as its own art form. The entire process must be planned out ahead of time, because once each step is completed you cannot change the course of the image. I enjoy this fact because it forces me to fully realize the image before I start the process. But even with all of the planning involved, the outcome is still uncertain until the print is completed, so it always keeps the process fresh and exciting for me.
