The patriot collection is a satirical take on questions regarding nationalism and sensationalism. As usual, I juxtapose conflicting elements to create an underlying contrast... Symbolism of the American flag is paired with a color palette inspired by the Cold War, while an American comic book influence is mixed with influences of Japanese scroll art.
It is always important for me that I render my work as neutral as possible. I prefer to give the viewer a choice, when it comes to interpretation, between two opposing dynamics... Whether the viewer finds these pieces symbolic of pride or irony is entirely up to the viewer.
